I don’t know one person who doesn’t love a good smoothie, especially on a hot day. Smoothies are great because you can use a wide variety of ingredients, they are great when you are freezer purging, they are a huge time saver, make a great on the go breakfast or lunch, and can supplement so many fruits and vegetables that maybe you don’t care to eat. The list goes on and on.
I am going to share some of my favorite smoothie recipe that are commonly requested in my house or my go to.
Coconut Dragon
This smoothie came to be one of my favorites. I was doing a freezer purge one day and was just adding a bunch of ingredients to get rid of fruit.
Recipe: In a blender put 1 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup of dragon fruit (I used a fruity mix from Target so mine was dragon fruit, mango and passion fruit), 1 cup of coconut water (you can use cold water if you would prefer or don’t have coconut water) and 2 scoops of vanilla bean coconut milk frozen yogurt. If you want it more frozen or thicker, add a few ice cubes, otherwise it blends nicely.
Oreo
This is my son’s go to! He asks me to make this every time that I am making smoothies. It is a creamy oreo smoothie, similar to a milkshake. He is big on exercising and an athlete, so I commonly but vanilla protein powder it, but not a bunch because he is PICKY!! He is sensitive to texture and taste, so I typically add about 1 TBSP of vanilla protein powder to his so he can’t taste it.
Recipe: In a blender, combine 1/2 cup of milk, 6 oreos (I typically use the oreo thins or I find an off-brand gluten free oreo version cookie), 3 ice cubes and a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt. Blend.
If it is too liquidy, add either a couple more ice cubes or if you want it creamier, another scoop of the frozen yogurt.
Assemble: In a cup, drizzle the sides with homemade or store-bought chocolate syrup, smoothie, whip cream and crumble one more oreo cookie on top.
Vanilla
This is my daughters go to! Every time I am making a smoothie, she wants the “vanilla one”. Similar to the oreo smoothie, I typically put about 1 TBSP of vanilla protein powder in her smoothie. She too is PICKY!
Recipe: 1 TBSP vanilla syrup (I typically use sugar free syrup), 1 tsp vanilla bean paste, 1/2 cup of milk, 3 ice cubes, a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt and blend! Simple and actually quite delicious.
If it is too liquidy, add either a couple more ice cubes or if you want it creamier, another scoop of the frozen yogurt.
I typically keep it simple by just adding whip cream to the top, but you could top it with sprinkles, a cherry, caramel syrup, etc.
The Sweet Green Monster
My favorite drink at Keva Juice is the Island Green, so this is a spinoff of that.
Recipe: In a blender, combine 3/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice), 1 bunch of spinach, 1/2 cup of mango, 1/2 cup of pineapple, 1/2 frozen banana, 1 scoop of vanilla bean coconut milk frozen yogurt and 1 TBSP of vanilla protein powder.
Fruit can be fresh or frozen, however I feel like you don’t have to use ice if you use frozen fruit, so that it typically my fruit choice.
Strawberry Sweetheart
I am one who HATES anything strawberry, however strawberries must always be in the house because my daughter loves them. Anytime we go to Keva Juice she always gets the strawberry squeezer. At home, her first request is vanilla, but OCCASIONALLY she wants a strawberry smoothie. So, this is my spin on a strawberry squeezer with protein.
Recipe: 3/4 cups of unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice), 1 cup of frozen strawberries, 1/2 frozen banana, 1 TBSP of vanilla protein powder and 1 scoop of vanilla bean coconut milk frozen yogurt.
I find that using frozen strawberries and banana is seriously the BEST option. If you don’t have any in the freezer, fresh will do just fine, just make sure to add some ice so it isn’t too liquidy. If you are a huge strawberry lover, I would recommend seeing if you can buy some strawberry frozen yogurt and use that in place of the vanilla bean. I like the vanilla bean because I feel like it gives it a creamier flavor.
Death by Chocolate
I love chocolate! I don’t know if there is such think as too much chocolate (okay maybe there is but chocolate overall is just the best)! My son’s Starbucks drink is the cookie crumble Frappuccino (I don’t know if that is what it is actually called but it is how we have always ordered it). One day he REALLY wanted to go to Starbucks, but I didn’t want to spend the money when I could just make a smoothie from home. So, I made a spinoff of the cookie crumble frap.
Recipe: 1/2 cup of milk of choice, 1 TBSP of chocolate protein powder, a drizzle of chocolate syrup (I like to use my own but store-bought is MUCH easier, 4 oreo cookies, 1/2 tsp of cacao powder, 3 ice cubes and 1 scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt.
Assemble: I started by putting homemade whipped cream at the bottom (you can sub this for cool whip, whip from a can or vanilla mallow cream), smoothie, and then top with whipped cream, oreo cookie crumbles and chocolate drizzle.
FYI the reason it is called death by chocolate is because when I made it from home it was NOTHING like a cookie crumble frap (LOL) but he still really loved it. When I asked him what he would change, his response was “maybe not so chocolatey”. Therefore, that is why we call it the death by chocolate smoothie.
These smoothies were all made by trial and error in my own home. No recipes were taken from any original recipe, idea, person or site. I reserve rights to these recipes, and no one should claim these recipes as their own.
