Bible Journaling

I feel like I learn the Bibe the best by writing down scripture. I thought I was the only one who did it and I always imagined God shaking His head and wondering why I am not reading chapters or sections of the Bible and drilling it into my memory. A few years ago, I read an article about Bible journaling, and it turns out that IT IS A REAL THING! It was really reassuring because numerous sites talked about how Bible journaling is where they grew closer to Christ. It truly gave me piece of mind and drove me to write more scripture down and spending more time in the Bible.

Journal with me! Grab a blank notebook and dedicate it to be your Bible Journal. If you want my Bible Journal here is the link Spiral notebook (printful.me)

I will list how I set my Bible Journal up but feel free to set yours up how you want.

First by writing the date at the top, then add the verse of the day. Next, answer the following questions:

  • Today, I am feeling _____________ (emotion). What I want to focus on today.
  • Why? – Here is where I will list all the things in my life or affecting my life that are factors into that emotion.
  • What God has to say – I will find 1-3 verses in the Bible about that emotion. In that scripture, I underline in one color what God tells us to do or the lesson that He is teaching me in that verse. In a separate color, I underline God’s promise or the solution. Some verses won’t have both, in that case I will underline what I think God is trying to tell me.
    • I will make notes around those two verses – this is my reflection
  • Steps to do what God has instructed me to do to help me overcome that emotion
  • Prayer – talk to God, share your fears or anxieties or feelings with Him. Ask for forgiveness in areas that you messed up and areas that you wish for strength or healing. Prayer is simply just talking to God like if you were talking to a family member or friend.

Need a Bible? I recommend looking on Amazon. There are so many different translations, so choose the one you prefer. Here is the one that I have: https://amzn.to/407wC0F

I also recommend introducing your kids to the Bible while they are young. Here are the ones that I got for my kids as they grew up:

  • Between the ages of infant to 5: Small, short and graphic Bibles are the best for this age group, especially as they begin to learn how to read and write: https://amzn.to/3YkEx9p
  • Between 5-9: My kids loved the adventure Bible like this on: https://amzn.to/3YmzkxO
  • And once they got to about age 10, I started transitioning them to a Bible like mine.
