Scripture and Prayer
Whether it is by text, or even just sharing scripture with your son is so important. Our world is so vicious and corrupt, and it is our jobs as parents to make sure scripture is constantly spoken to and over our children. In the book of Joshua, it say’s “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.” (1:8)
Parents, God tells us “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-8
Here is scripture I have sent my son and prayed over him, and I hope you all do the same for your son’s, no matter how old they are.
1 Corinthians 15:58
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58
My son, we are so blessed to have so many good things in our lives, I hope and pray you can see how fortunate we are. I know it is easy to want and want but we need to be grateful for what we have. Remember hard work pays off and if you trust in the Lord, He will provide all of your needs. You are such an amazing young man, and I am so proud to call you my son.
Ephesians 6: 1-2
Scripture: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and your mother’ – which is the first commandment with a promise.”
My son, I know sometimes it seems like I am being mean or harping on you, but I promise it is all part of me trying to guide, teach and protect you. You are going to go through life and make mistakes, learn things the easy or the hard way, and then one day when you have children you will guide them and get on them about certain things too, because you love them. I love you very much bud.
Philippians 3:13
Scripture: “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind you and straining toward what is ahead of you.” – Philippians 3:13
Bud, sometimes we are faced with things that are hard. Unfortunately, the hard part is, sometimes we don’t want to let go or move on because we think that it is going to make things even harder or more hurtful, and sometimes it does. But, in order for us to be able to fulfill God’s plans for our lives we have to let it go and move forward. Sometimes things hurt us, and we get stuck in the moment, fixating on the thing or situation that hurt us or is weighing us down, but God tells us to leave it behind and move forward. Persevere. I love you bud. God loves you. It’s going to be a good day.
Proverbs 9:10
Scripture: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – Proverbs 9:10
Son, it is so important that we have a firm understanding of who God is and how powerful He is. Fearing the Lord is the first step and then learning more about Him and His words so we can shape our lives around the Holy One. This is why church, and midweek are so important. Being young I know can make it difficult to understand the importance of all of this, but as you grow older, stay close to the Lord and He will lead you to His words and instruction.
Acts 6:4
Scripture: “give our attention to prayer and ministry of the word.” – Acts 6:4
Bud, remember prayer is key! Pray to Him and ask Him what He wants you to share today. Ask Him to put people on your path that you need to inspire or talk to. God calls us to be disciples of Him, which means we need to set good examples, tell people about God and share His word. I love you. God loves you. It’s going to be a good day.
1 John 3:1
Scripture: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.” – 1 John 3:1
My son, it is something to embrace to be known as a child of God. Because we are His child, it is our job to tell everyone around us about Him and to share the good news that they are children of God also. I am so proud of you. I love you.
Proverbs 13:1
Scripture: “A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes.” – Proverbs 13:1
Son, God calls us to be wise when making decisions. In order for us to achieve wisdom, we must follow both our Heavenly Father and our earthly father’s instructions. God gives us direction and guidance as we become parents so that way we can teach our children God’s words and commands. With these gifs given by God, we are able to become reliable resources to our children. I love you bud. God loves you. It’s going to be a good day.
Ephesians 4:32
Scripture: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:32
Son, when we are kind and show love to others around us, that is how we show the love of Christ. He instructs us to be kind to others, show them love when they clearly don’t deserve it and forgive them, no matter how badly they hurt us. We are disciples of Christ, and it is so important that we show the love of Christ through our actions. I love you. God loves you. It’s going to be a good day.
Matthew 18:4-5
Scripture: “Therefore whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in My Name welcomes Me.” – Matthew18:4-5
Father, I pray for my son, that as he grows, he will always take the path of innocence. I know that he will make mistakes and do things that will lead him to learning lessons that will shape his future, but I pray that he always comes back to You, to seek forgiveness and guidance. Father, help him to wear Your Name proudly and don’t ever let him feel shamed for calling himself a Christian. I pray for safety, protection and health for him Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
